Whether you are starting out in business and need a simple solution which offers bookkeeping basics, or whether you are an established firm that has outgrown its current system, choosing the right package can be tricky.
Accounting software might sound dull (although we don’t think so!) but it will allow you to keep track of your cash flow, what you owe to suppliers, what is owed to you by your customers, what your tax liabilities are to HMRC (meaning you can budget in advance to pay them) and generally give your greater visibility over the health of your business.
There are essentially two types of system – cloud based (i.e. online, and usually payable monthly) or desktop (typically paid for as an annual license) Both have pros and cons, but with an online system, you can essentially work from anywhere, and in most cases, accountants access can be enabled, which means you are both working on the same system in real time.
